Scholarship Opportunities

Each year, thousands of scholarships are awarded to prospective education abroad students. Scholarships are an excellent way of funding your education abroad experience. You will find the different scholarships that are internally and externally awarded by clicking here for the UCCS Scholarship website and listed below. When applying for scholarships students should look closely at the scholarship requirements.

Scholarship eligibility varies often based on:

  • Area of study (major/minor)
  • GPA
  • Location of study (country/region)
  • Duration (semester/year/short-term)

IIE Generation Study Abroad Travel Grants

  • Available to U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents attending UCCS in undergraduate status
  • Participating in an abroad program for credit
  • Demonstrates financial need

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

  • Available only to Federal Pell Grant Recipients
  • Award amounts vary depending of length of study and student need
  • Emphasis is placed on non-traditional study and intern abroad destinations outside of Western Europe, Australia, and New Zealand

Gilman-McCain International Scholarship

  • Recipient of any type of Title IV federal financial aid
  • Dependent child of an active duty military member(s) during the time of application in one of the following branches: Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard
  • Award amounts vary depending of length of study and student need

Boren Awards for International Study

  • Provides funding for undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world critical to U.S. interests
  • Students studying languages in Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin American, and the Middle East are encouraged to apply

Bridging Scholarship

  • Offers scholarships to American undergraduates to study in Japan
  • Available only to U.S. citizens
  • Summer study programs are not eligible

BUTEX Scholarship

  • For study abroad students studying in the UK
  • Students must be placed at an eligible UK institution for a minimum of one semester

DAAD German Academic Exchange

  • Supporting several types of study and research in Germany
  • Interested students should visit the DAAD website for more information

Freeman-Asia Scholarship

  • For undergraduate U.S. students only with demonstrated financial need
  • For students interested in study abroad in Asia or Southeast Asia

Fulbright Scholar Program

  • Provides funding for several types of study, research, and teaching abroad for postgraduate students
  • Interested students should visit the Fulbright U.S. Student Program website for more information

Killam Fellowships Program for U.S. Students

  • Opportunity for U.S. citizens to spend one semester or a full academic year studying at a university in Canada; Award carries a value of $5000 for one semester
  • U.S. citizens that are full-time undergraduate students in good standing
  • English proficiency

Phi Kappa Phi

  • Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher are eligible to apply
  • Only available for accredited study abroad programs

Diversity Abroad Overseas Ambassador Program

  • Available for Fall, Spring or Academic-Year study abroad only
  • Full-time undergraduate student with a minimum GPA of 2.75
  • Economically disadvantaged students, first-generation, students with disabilities and ethnic and racial diverse students are strongly encouraged to apply here: Diversity Abroad Overseas Ambassador Scholarship
