Registering Your Travel
Preparing for international travel and potential emergency situations outside of the U.S. is important and may be very different than in the U.S. To help students be prepared before departing, International Affairs strongly advises that students register their travel, including any excursions they plan to take outside their program’s home base, with both International SOS and STEP in addition to International Affairs.
International SOS
International SOS is a travel assistance provider that the university has a membership with. All UCCS students participating in an approved abroad program are covered and will simply need to register with International SOS to receive the information and services they provide, which include pre-travel country-specific information, a database of university travelers, 24/7 travel assistance, real-time global intelligence reports, and emergency/crisis response. Students will need to register with International SOS before departing the U.S. in order to access services while abroad. To register, visit the International SOS website and enter the membership number below.

Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)
The U.S. Department of State offers a free program known as the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program, or STEP, to U.S. citizens and nationals traveling or living abroad. The program allows enrollees to pre-register their trip with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate, ensuring that they receive alerts and information from the embassy/consulate about safety conditions in their host country or countries and can be contacted faster by the embassy/consulate in the event of an emergency, as well as helps family and friends get in touch with them in the event of an emergency. To register, visit the STEP website or download the STEP app.
