Steps to Study Abroad

  1. ATTEND AN EDUCATION ABROAD 101 INFORMATION SESSION

This is the first step of the journey. We encourage you to attend an Abroad 101 session as you begin to consider education abroad. These sessions cover important considerations including the following:

    • types of programs abroad and where you can go
    • the education abroad registration/application process
    • types of classes and courses
    • scholarships and financial aid
  2. RESEARCH PROGRAM OPTIONS

After attending an Abroad 101 session, you will be responsible for researching your own programs. UCCSAbroad has a program search database that students can look through to find information about different programs.

Please note that Education Abroad requires that students complete at least one semester of coursework as a UCCS student prior to traveling unless stated otherwise on the program page. Some programs will require advanced standing for consideration.

  3. MEET WITH YOUR ACADEMIC ADVISOR

Be sure to meet with your UCCS Academic Advisor to discuss how your proposed education abroad course work will fit your UCCS degree requirements. You must have a good understanding of your academic standing and what classes are necessary for graduation. It is best to discuss these things before you apply, as some programs have non-refundable registration fees.

  4. MEET WITH INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS - EDUCATION ABROAD

Come and meet with International Affairs - Education Abroad  to go over the programs that interest you the most! Don't know what you want or need, that's fine! International Affairs is trained to help students go over the essential components of education abroad to help guide students to the program that will fit them the best.

  5. CHECK OUT FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS

If you are interested in finding out what financial aid may be available to use toward education abroad, contact the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships can help determine what aid you may be eligible for. Scholarships opportunities are also available from UCCS and other external organizations. Research your scholarship options early.

  6. DECIDE AND APPLY TO PROGRAM

Be sure to submit your UCCS education abroad application/registration and supporting documents through your UCCSAbroad account by the deadlines. Note that you will always complete two applications: first, an online UCCS education abroad registration/application via UCCSAbroad and second, a direct application with the program provider or host institution. Please reach out to International Affairs if you need help through this process.
