Emergency Steps and Contacts

Safety and Security is the top priority for UCCS students abroad. Rarely, students may find themselves in a situations that requires additional assistance however students are encouraged to be informed and take action immediately. For UCCS students experiencing an emergency abroad you have several resources.

Contact local authorities
The first step is to contact local authorities (if they feel safe). Students should research and memorize the local emergency services contact information.
Contact your in-country director or contact
All programs have in-country directors or contacts with whom students will work. Most in-country directors make themselves available 24/7 for emergency situations. Try to contact them as soon as possible.
Contact the closest U.S. Embassy or Consulate
U.S. Embassies and Consulates provide services for U.S. citizens abroad and may be able to give students in emergency situations advice and assistance. Overseas Citizen Services can be contacted at 1 888 407 4747 or +1 202 501 4444.  Please remember to register your experience abroad with the Department of State - STEP program so they can assist you faster in case of emergency.
Contact International SOS at +1 215 942 8226 or www.internationalsos.com (member login 11BCAS000006)
